Bent Writing Institute presents Homo-coming 2005: "Oh, Those Nifty Fifties!"
Come out to the seminal fall event that never-was for many queers and
communities: homo-coming!

Where: Miller Community Center, Main Gym, 330 19th Ave. E.
What: Football game "Poets vs. Jocks," with half-time show by
Infernal Noise Brigade, and the Sneerleaders
Who: All ages
How: Admission is free
**Homo-coming Dance "Oh, those Nifty Fifties"**
When: October 22, 2005
Time: 8pm - Midnight
Where: LGBT Community Center, 1115 E. Pike St., on Capitol Hill
What: Oh, Those Nifty Fifties dance, with Dayla "DJ Hotcakes" Perez
Who: All ages
How: Tickets $10 door and $5 for youth (under 18)
Kick off this tried and true tradition with a good ol' down and dirty
football game. Join us at Miller Community Center (330 19th Ave. E.) for the
ultimate show down of Poets vs. Jocks. Admission is free but bring some
extra cash to bribe the referees and score some extra points for you¹re
favorite team. Or, pay to see some jocks dressed in frocks and wigs from our
Bent clothes closet. You can even pay to put yourself in the game! Plus, see
new and original cheers and sneers from Bent's famous Sneerleaders, and
enjoy our halftime show.
Later that evening, dust off your 50's duds for the second annual Bent
Homo-coming dance. That¹s right, all you Daddy-O's, its time to queer the
fifties sock hop and turn those poodle skirts up-side-down. Greaser or
square we don't care, come on down to the LGBT Community Center and rock
your bobby socks off to the groves being spun by Dalya "DJ Hotcakes" Perez.
Get your Homo-coming portrait taken and show off your skills in the
Hula-Hoop contest. Visit the wine bar. And, cast your vote for Homo-coming
royal court of 2005!
Re: Bent Writing Institute
Bent is a Seattle non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and
encourage written and spoken word among LGBTIQ people and in our
communities. Bent began August 2000 in the living room of Tara Hardy,
published writer and Slam Champ. Since, Bent has grown to a full writing
institute, offering a variety of weekly classes and producing four annual
showcases, to-date. Over 250 students have attended Bent classes.
Bent commenced its annual Homo-coming fundraiser in October 2004, with an
over-flowing football game and sold-out 70¹s-themed dance. In this first
event, Bent honored six local activists and artists in its royal court:
Dalya Perez, Debbie Carlson, Krys Bennett, Colin Loveall, Zan Scommodau, and
Erick Seelbach.
As the Seattle Gay News (SGN) puts it, "queer writers explode!" The 2005 Mentor Showcase was a great success. See the article in the October 14, 2005 issue of the SGN. A big thanks has to go out to our friends, supporters, allies, and local community. It couldn�t have happened without you.
